If your bird is hand tame, a play top bird cage is what I would recommend. These bird cages have solid play tops with a powder coated pull out tray that will catch the mess.

All of our discount play top bird cages come with a free toy hook and wood perch. You can replace the wood perch with manzanita wood or other safe wood if you choose. Simply drill screw holes in the appropriate places and screw it down.

Birds that have time out of the cage are much happier birds. Happier birds are quieter birds, with the exception of the happy noises they make when playing and beating up their toys.

Providing your bird a play top bird cage will give your bird a feeling of freedom and more room to explore. You would not like to be locked in your room for hours on end, would you?

If you have a separate play stand for your bird, then a dome top cage will work fine. I have a separate play stand for my birds, but I still provide a play top bird cage for them because I want them to be able to play outside of their cage in the room their cages are kept.

Be sure and choose a cage with the appropriate bar spacing for your size parrot. Small birds, like Budgies and Conures, should not be housed in a cage with bar spacing wider than 5/8" for their safety. They could get stuck in the bars and die.

Larger birds, like Amazon Parrots, will do fine in a cage with 1" bar spacing. Most of the larger cages will have 1" bar spacing.
